28 July 2003 19:43Am sulking.
Wish I could see Pirates of the Caribbean, comments about which is all over my friends-pages. Unfortunately, it's not due for release here until 7 August (I think). Some films go on worldwide release simultaneously. Why not PotC?
It seems to make no sense, bearing in mind that the UK release date isn't that much later than in the US. I'm sure the marketing men think they have good reasons for the staggered release date. But do they?
Second reason I'm sulking. Think I bought too large a size of trousers last week. On the upside I've definitely lost weight recently. But not enough to get back into some of my favourite suits and win back that accolade of [world's largest law firm] Best Dressed Lawyer (London office only admittedly). But anyway, I decided to see if I could get a pair in a smaller size. So, I duly troop down to Oxford Street. Only to find that they've got a damn sale on - not just a sale but a scrummage filled with hordes of manaical women with a bloodthirsty gleam in their eye. That top/trousers/dress/skirt/suit/whatever will be mine!
The result is that it was impossible to find anything, not least because the shop has taken down the regular display and squeezed in row after row after row of sale stock. I don't think that the trousers I wanted were on sale (either that or they'd all been sold) but none of the non-sale stock was available to buy either. Most frustrating.
So, I went to another shop and bought another couple of pairs of trousers instead. Also expensive.
On the plus side, tomorrow is a couple of friends' birthdays and we're off to what is probably London's best fish restaurant. Oh yes, we'll be a living cliche, five women in a fish restaurant (token man can't make it this year). Of course, there's always the possibility of mingling with the celebs. Last time I went *cough* Esther Rantzen *cough* was on the next table. What? She's on the telly, therefore she must be famous...
And, whitecrow will soon be in London.
Woo hoo!
Plus. New Firefly episode tonight. Complete with Richard Burgi.
Yay!

Date: 28 July 2003 13:14 (UTC)Which is always good I believe. And yeah, I have no idea why you would like an even remotely slashy film with Johny Depp and Orlando....

Um, and lots of english tourists drunk out of their minds? LOL But yeah, the sand sounds good and staying in bed sleeping sounds even better :)

PotC *sigh* I will see it in Oxford as soon as I come back, that is in September. So, maybe this can make all the weeks of waiting a bit more bearable, when you know that others will see it even later :)
I hope you are having fun.
And I'm certain you'll regain you rtitle soon enough. Although I do not understand why you say that; you already are one of the most best-dressed people I know. Is it possible that others don't see that?

Date: 29 July 2003 02:51 (UTC)At least I only have about 10 days or so to wait. Could be worse.
As for the best-dressed thing, no, no one has actually accused me of being badly dressed. *g* It's more that I'm conscious of having put on enough weight that I can't get into some of my best clothes. What's depressing is that I doubt I'll ever get back into them. Unless I get more time to exercise. The only other option is starvation, which is deeply unattractive. Also deeply stupid.
But, dammit, I had some lovely clothes that I wanna wear with matching shoes, handbags. the lot.
*Sulks.*

Date: 30 July 2003 05:51 (UTC)I've no idea when it opens in Greece. I will watch it when I come back in Oxford :)
:( But you will regain your former weight; I am sure of it!
*sending dieting vibes on your way*

Date: 30 July 2003 07:11 (UTC)I doubt it. The weight has been creeping steadily ever upwards for the past few years. I decided I had to Do Something About It over the past few months and have, by changing my dietary habits, so that when I'm not out dining with friends I usually eat mostly vegetables and rice-cakes. Oh, and chocolate (I have to have one treat, right?) but in fairly modest quantities. But without giving up chocolate altogether (the horror) there's really nothing left for me to crack down on foodwise. No, the only other option is to exercise more and while I'm so busy workwise that is problematic.
The harsh reality is that the only sure way to lose weight, and keep the weight off, is by modifying your eating habits permanently and exercising regularly, whcih also has the effect of boosting your metabolic rate so that you burn up the calories quicker iae. The modifying the diet thing is easy, and so is the exercise (power-walking, which is actually harder than jogging, although not so hard as running, but it does less damage to the body) is my thing. Love doing it too. When I get the time.
And there's the problem.
Sigh.

Date: 29 July 2003 04:34 (UTC)But, oh, have just read back and seen your recent shop ups. Am awed. Ten tops in one go! That is some serious buying. Will expect uber glamour on Wed.

Date: 29 July 2003 04:47 (UTC)yeah, but mostly stuff that I can wear under suits for work, or can wear at home for a more casual look. Nothing fancy. Still haven't bought blouse I was tempted by. Oh, and I took one top back...and bought a couple of others instead! *g*
Will expect uber glamour on Wed.
Don't hold your breath. Will be coming from work.

It was a good ep, in case you were wondering and I'm pretty sure that you can download it from the net if you want to see it now. I *think* it went up there well before it was broadcast in Britain (which is the first time it's been broadcast on TV) as somehow some fans managed to get hold of the unaired eps and put them on the net.
However, I've decided to wait and see the episodes when broadcast, so I can prolong the anticipation (there's only 2 more eps to go. Sniffle) and watch them in a decent format.
I could tape them for you (they broadcast each episode 4 times a week) but I don't think you can watch PAL format can you?
