It's a wonderful town, which I will be visiting from 9 to 16 June 2004.

Soooo, anyone want to meet up? Anyone?

Hmm. That's a possibility.

Great! Would love to see you.

I don't know yet what I'll be doing when or what mine host (who I think you know) has planned, but maybe you could LMK when you might be available? Perhaps email me?

*laughs*. Not really, but she doesn't have a LJ so I'm hesitant to name her in public.

Lucky duck. And you've got a nice long trip, too.

(have a great time. I'll just be in the corner here, sulking and turning green with envy)

Oooh, a green Raincitygirl. Hmm, might be rather pretty, actually. ;)

And thanks for the good wishes. I'm sure I shall enjoy myself hugely.

I've been looking for an excuse to go back east this year but this is too short notice, darn it. Was supposed to go to NYC (never been there) in July or August but the timing just didn't work out.

Still trying to convince my mother to go to London because I want her to experience it at least once in her life and because I want to return for another visit.

I emailed you and it was returned. Let's see. I have to be out of town on the 11th, and my friend may be here on the 16th. So in-between? I don't know what your scheduel is like.

Thanks for the good wishes and I'm sure I'll enjoy myself.

But you know, I envy you living in one of the world's most vibrant and beautiful cities, which I still haven't visited. One day, maybe...

Bugger! What a pity it's too short notice for NYC as I would have *loved* to see you. Rats!

If you do manage to persuade your mother to visit London please LMK and I'll try and come along to play tour guide at the weekend, assuming you want me to, of course.

Ditto. The more I think about it the more disappointed I am. Perhaps we'll get to see each other again before we're both 50. ;)

Monica, whom you'll have a ball with, suggested to me that she and I go to London together. And I'm not quite sure why I've never thought of that because Monica is a ball to go places with and it would certainly make the air travel time more palatable to fly to NYC and spend a night and then fly on to London. Perhaps I'll start watching for some good air deals. I need a trip somewhere this year. I have absolutely nothing planned at this point.

No, no, we can't possibly wait that long. Why, that's years, decades even, *cough* away...

I'm looking forward to my NYC trip even more now after your comments about Monica. Can't wait to meet her!

And oooh yeah! you both must come to London. This year would be great. And, of course, you're both more than welcome to stay at my place. Now how can you resist? *cough*

Hmm, I seem to have developed a pesky cough somewhere along the line. *g*

Monica Rule #1: Even though she's naturally fun, feed her lots of wine and she'll do anything. ;)

Free lodging? Hard to pass that up. I've already put the feelers out to Monica to see how serious she was about a London trip. My birthday is coming up in September and my mother is more than happy to get off easy by donating money toward a trip. :)

And I'm bringing my own tea. Lord knows how I coped the last time I was there other than abusing your washing machine, stealing a tiny container of chips (bet you never missed them, did you) and managing to change your email inbox to show all your email as 'read' even though I didn't snoop and read any of it--amazing what one slip of the finger on the keyboard can do. So not gonna mention the downpour in Birmingham where you were the only one with an umbrella and I spent my last day in London holed up in your flat trying to hold off the flu until I got back home. Nor am I going to mention a certain someone picking me up at the airport then getting us lost on the way to your place and throwing a map at me -- ME! who was fresh off an 11-hour flight, had never been to London before and EVERYONE was driving on the WRONG side of the road -- so I could figure out how to get to your place. Probably shouldn't mention the petrol station and fur coat incident either . . . *cough*

I seem to have picked up your cough . . .

No one ever comes to New Jersey

Sure, all you folks, flitting about all over the globe, dashing to NYC, planning trips to London ... but does anyone ever come to NJ? Noooooooo.

Now admittedly, it is a little hard to come up, on short notice, with any reasons whatsoever anyone in her right mind would come to suburban NJ if she didn't already live here ... oh no, wait, I've got one! One could see my most adorable children. :) Surely that's worth a trip. ;)

~Margaret, remembering those 5 months living in scenic East Finchley on the Northern Line way back when ... and remembering renting a little -- gosh, what was it? Was it a Fiat Panda? -- with hubby-who-was-at-the-time-just-my-boyfriend -- and neither of us knew how to drive stick shift. Now *that* was a hoot. I seem to recall being extremely panicked on the ... ummm ... A4? Some big traffic highway with a big traffic circle.

Think I'll stop off at the duty free and get hold of some wine. Wanna see Monica do anything! ;)

September sounds good. I just need to check on dates because I have a wedding to go to in September. I think it's the 18th, but it may be the 25th. I'll let you know when I get back to Blighty (will shortly be leaving for the airport).

No, I never missed the 'chips'. I think you mean crisps as we call chips what you call French fries. But the food was there for you to eat, so it's not really stealing. *g*

Yeah, the flu was a bummer. Oh, and I saw she-who-must-not-be-named last night and mentioned you might be coming. She'd love to see you, although picking you and Monica up from the airport might not be such a good idea...

Grrr, fur coat, grrr. Still angry at that one. ;)

Gotta dash.

Aw, poor Margaret. And, actually, I have been to New Jersey. I flew to Newark once on my way to NYC... *g*

I'm sure your adorable children are more than worth the trip. Maybe I could persuade Monica to come out to New Jersey? Although it looks like she's going to have to work most of the time, sadly. Maybe next time, a day trip to suburbia for that real American experience... *g*

I think the big roundabout was either the Hangar Lane gyratory system, which is where the A40 crosses over the North Circ, or the big roundabout where the A4 crosses over the North Circ. Either way they are both very big and require lots of lane swopping, which is disconcerting if you're not used to it.

As for not being able to drive a manual car... ouch! We don't let Brits who don't know how to drive one drive anything other than an automatic and at least they're used to driving on the right side of the road (there are separate driving tests in that you can take an automatic car one only, which means you can only drive an automatic car, or a manual car test, in which case you can drive both types). I can only imagine the trauma of trying to drive a manual car in London when you've only ever driven an automatic.
