It's been ages since I made an LJ entry, but I so enjoyed reading everyone else's 'Ten things' entry that I've made one of my own:

1. Been white-water rafting down the Zambezi River by Victoria Falls

2. Suffered from gangrene.

3. Posed topless for a professional photographer. What? The photos were *art*! Honest.

4. Been hit by an oil tanker (oil truck in American parlance) whilst cycling in Enid, Oklahoma. I survived. The bike didn't.

5. Gone out with 3 guys at the same time, none of whom knew about the others, until the point when all of us attended the same party.

6. Hidden from the police, who were chasing me at the time, by climbing on top of a transit van.

7. Been banned from court by an irate judge.

8. Suffered concussion from a skiing accident, in which I left a 40 feet long trail of blood in the snow.

9. Been hit on the head with a poker.

10. Sung karaoke at a bar in Beijing with several high-ranking members of the Chinese Communist Party.

I don't want to sound heartless about the other things, but that's the story I wanna hear!

*g* Well, I couldn't simply leave the party, as I had been driven there by one of the blokes, and we were in the middle of nowhere, so I employed the services of the Sisterhood. I got my female friends to distract the two I wasn't talking to at the time, as I flitted from room to room, using various ever-more-desperate excuses (I needed the loo, a drink, oh look - there's so and so, must go and find out about their ingrowing toenail etc).

The girls rallied round and for about 2 hours or so we managed to ensure that whichever room I was in only one of the blokes was there at the same time. Alas, like all of the best-laid plans it ended in tragedy, when I was, um, talking (for which read standing very close, touching them in a flirtatious manner etc) to one of them, who I shall call Bloke 1 One of the others, Bloke 2, came into the room. Bloke 2 demanded to know of Bloke 1 what the hell he was doing with his girlfriend etc. Everyone came running to find out what was happening, what with all the yellingand the noise. I was standing between them trying to keep it from degenerating into a fight.

At that point, enter Bloke 3.

I will never forget the dawning moment of realisation on three exceptionally pissed-off faces. No violence was offered - I think the idea of hitting a 5 feet 1 inches tall woman who weighed (at the time) about 100 pounds was a real no no. They didn't even manage to call me any really nasty names, being stunned into silence by my perfidy, I think.

However, obviously none of them wanted anything more to do with me, and I needed to find a ride home. So I picked up some other bloke instead. Ahem.

In my defence, I was only 16 at the time and was typically careless of other people's feelings, what with being so young. And I missed out on some damn good concert that Bloke 2 (I think) was going to take me to. *g*

In your defense? Hell, I'm impressed! Nine out of ten for style!

Ten out ten would have been to leave the party after 2 hours still with three boyfriends... ;-)

(Okay, I'll admit I'd be less impressed if you had been in your 20s or if you were a bloke. Most ageist and sexist of me. As it is, though...)

I know what you mean. It would have been perhaps more...predictable if it had been a man with three women. *g*

I do feel vaguely ashamed, in that they were all three of them nice boys who I sincerely hope didn't treat anyone like I treated them. But we were all very young, none of the relationships was the slightest bit serious and all were pretty recent.

What? At all my accidents? *g* You know, I can really compare and contrast hospitals in various countries, having spent more time than I'd like in them over the years.

And just *why* were the coppers chasing you in #6, and did it have anything to do with #7?

Oh, we'd nicked a few traffic cones. Time-honoured student past-time and all that. Trouble was, the lack of traffic cones had been buggering up the traffic-flow and the police were getting sick of being called out to direct the traffic.

So, when they saw a few of us, um, acquiring, some cones they came after us. We scattered for maximum chance of getting away, and a couple of us, myself and a friend, ran down an alley with a constable in pursuit. Unfortunately, the alley ended in a wall, which I thought I had no chance of climbing, so I shimmied up onto the top of the van. My companion, who was male, climbed over the wall. The copper saw him do it and climbed over the wall after him. Leaving me free to climb down and saunter off.

The policeman didn't catch my friend either. *g*

#7 is unrelated and involved my mobile phone going off whilst I was representing a client. The judge was a miserable old git and ordered me out of the court and told me not to return. Luckily I've managed to avoid him ever since.

Gangrene! Ick!

(But on an entirely unrelated note: I'll be in London next month on business. If you're available and so inclined, it'd be wonderful to see you. Unfortunately, though, my schedule is exceptionally tight - right now it looks like my free hours are limited to Thursday March 17 for breakfast or lunch, or Saturday March 19 for breakfast/brunch/early lunch... not very appealing, I know, but if you do think one of those might work let me know!

And if not, I'm hoping to be back in late May for Nattercon, so maybe we can do it then ....)

It would be lovely to see you. I'm meant to be in court on 17 March (we have a 3 day hearing listed starting on 14 March) but that may go between now and then.

I can definitely do Saturday 19 March, though. So the question is whether you want to book me in for brunch/early lunch on the Saturday or risk me being stuck at court on 17 March.

Hmmm... Thursday is better for me, but I'm not planning to fill up either slot with an alternative engagement, so why don't we say Saturday (I have a 3pm plane), but if your hearing changes let me know so we can switch to Thursday. Sound okay? (I suppose we can conduct the rest of these negotiations by email! *g*)

Beats the tiny scars I've got on my face as a result of mine. Mind you, I don't think I'd *want* a super-impressive scar on my face. Or, well, anywhere really. *g*

Skiing is a dangerous sport. But so very much fun.

It was the first year of college/university. I was going out, not seriously, with several guys though my eye was on someone who didn't notice me. And the dorm was having a party, so I asked Guy #1, who said he couldn't make it. I asked Guy #2, who said he'd try but wouldn't promise anything, and I asked Guy #3 because I felt sorry for him, I think; he was having some problems and needed diversion but said he was busy.

Come the day of the party, they all showed up, and stood around in the corner talking with each other instead of mixing. And they mostly went off together, and I ended up with someone entirely different.

They all sound remarkably civilised, and it sounds as if you had a good time. *g* It all sounds very reasonable as well, after all it's not your fault that they couldn't make up their minds whether to go to the party or not.

If I've interpreted your comment correctly, no. *g*

I couldn't even if I wanted to, as I don't have them. Alas, they unaccountably disappeared in the fastnesses of time...
