As Tem wrote, I was sleeping in and first I knew about it was when [livejournal.com profile] alsoa contacted me to check whether I was okay. Thank God I wasn't planning to go into the office today.

Am watching BBC News 24. The latest is:

Two people are dead at Aldgate East. There are multiple fatalities with the bus at Tavistock Square - the top deck has been ripped off. There are 6 explosions to date. All buses, tubes and non-mainline trains are down.

It is believed to be Al-Quaeda.

Thanks for the good wishes. London as a whole will bounce back - we always do. But, God, three of the explosions are on my direct route to the office.

What a day to sleep in.

I know. I have every confidence in that.

I'll raise a glass to your sleeping-in-ness.

Glad to hear

Very glad to hear you were sleeping in. This whole thing is just appalling.

It is awful. I have two routes into work. One is via Kings Cross and the other into Moorgate. It's pretty chilling.

The only good thing is that everyone I know seems to be okay and solicitors' firms across the City are being inundated with calls from anxious clients wanting to know that their lawyers are okay. Which is heartwarming.

I think that's everyone who I know was in Central London who's reported up on LJ now :) Hope everything's OK: am keeping up-to-date via BBC website.

Me too. I either go through Kings Cross and Russell Square, or into Moorgate... Should be interesting getting to court tomorrow.

Many thanks for the hugs, hon.

I'm so glad you're okay! It just didn't strike me when I heard it that people I knew might be involved. Of course, it never occurred to me that people would be worried about me on 9/11, so I clearly have some denial issues.

We've gone to high orange alert here -- which is just a whisper from red, and then they shut down the government, public places, etc. I bet the metro is going to be very, very empty this evening.

It's really not good, is it?

It isn't, but it wasn't unexpected. We were told quite a long time ago that we *would* be attacked at some point. That was why the emergency services were so well prepared, they'd had the disaster plan in place for a while.

I heard that other countries had been upgrading the alert level. It's probably a good idea, although the thinking here is that it was home-grown fanatics who did it. Young idiots who have been indoctrinated. Apparently, one of the two people who died on the bus is thought to have been the bomber - who blew himself up by mistake.
