Well, bugger. I was (mostly) enjoying season 10, as well. Yes, I know, not everyone shares my feelings, but I was liking it more than any season since 5, I think.

OTOH, if SGA was no more I'd be really upset. Phew.

Not a surprise though -- well, it wasn't to me. The ratings, plus that SGA was always on Sci Fi, and SG1 was bought in, plus the perennial urge of companies to plump for the new shiny. It's a shame that it just seemed to be hitting its stride again, but yeah, if it's a choice twixt them, I'm not going to regret SG1 lost the toss.

Not a surprise, exactly, but I was hoping that they'd wait until after the second part of the season was airing to see if the ratings improved. Plus, everyone except MS had already signed contracts for season 11, so the decision to axe it seems to have been made recently and with indecent speed.

Bloody studio execs. What did they expect when they stuck it in a bad time slot with no advertising?

There is a certain irony in them actually planning for next year and getting cancelled -- I wonder how expensive it's going to be exercising the break clauses...

And on second thoughts I wonder how many of them they are going to offer the option of moving to SGA... I won't be happy about that, at all.

I wouldn't like that much either. I never have been able to watch SG-1 until recently. I can't imagine who they could bring over without killing off one of the current characters.

Yes, that's the problem. The SGA cast works well as is, and while I like all of the past and present SG1 line-up (with the exception of Landry) I do not want to see any of them move over, because what would they do?

I fear that they would only diminish the roles of the SGA cast. Let's hope the moving over thing is wrong.

You don't like Landry?! He's one of the few things I do like about SG1. I loved his first interaction with Mitchell. It spelled out that he was military, but very different from the previous commander.

I had no problems with his first interaction with Cameron, and was quite willing to embrace and enjoy his character. But, somehow, he leaves me cold. This quite unusual for me, as I tend to like all the characters in series I like. But I've never been able to warm up to Landry.

Note that I don't like him, though, rather than saying that I actively dislike him. Actively disliking characters strikes me as being a bit silly, given that they're not real.

The same argument could be made about liking them, as well, or about writing stories about them.

You're right, it could. And yet, I do feel that there's a qualitative difference between liking, or even loving, a character and hating them.

Maybe it's because hate and dislike are negative emotions, that are draining (I've only ever really hated one person in my life, although I've disliked others) and impact badly on people's lives. Whereas like and love (provided not obsessive) are usually positive and enrich people's lives. Ditto fandom. I think mostly it's a positive experience and wasting it (IMO) by being negative strikes me as rather sad.

Not logical, I know.

I can see them trying to bring over some the main cast as guest actors, but it could never work as regulars. Carter, for example outranks Sheppard, so even if they thought it would be funny (hear my hollow laughter) to pit her and McKay on Atlantis, it would cause all sorts of chain of command issues.

They might get away with Jackson -- but Shanks hadn't even signed for SG1, so they don't need to offer him anything.

No, you're right, short of killing someone off, there's nowhere for them to go. And I foresee massive resentment if they try. Jonas Quinn will be as nothing!

Yep. Massive meltdown. Some people are saying that Daniel would work (although as MS hasn't signed...) but I'm not keen. For a start, the thought of all that Daniel/Rodney badfic is off-putting... I suspect, somehow, that the badficcers would embrace McJack as their pairing of choice, because then there would be two emo woobies to torment.

Save us, please.

Me neither. Which is why those reports saying some SG1 cast members are going to move over to SGA are rather worrying.

I'm hoping they mean minor recurring cast, rather than the regulars. Otherwise there's just going to be a wankstorm the likes of which I thought safely gone with Jonas Quinn!

I'm just relieved SGA was renewed. Although I was thinking about the chances of David Hewlett being in Doctor Who if SGA had gotten cancelled. *g*

Hmm, I would say none. Well, if we're talking playing the Doctor, as I've seen discussed at times. I'm sure David can do a decent British accent of some variety (I can't see the BBC ever casting a Doctor Who who doesn't sound British) and the man can really act. But, he's not really known in Britain, Doctor Who is a hot property that many extremely good British actors would kill to play and, as we don't tend to type-cast actors into acting ghettos like they do in the US, the casting pool for Doctor Who isn't limited to the SF pool, and they can choose from pretty much any suitable actor in the whole of Britain.

David originates from Britain, true, but he's really a Canadian actor. A very good Canadian actor, undoubtedly, but there are lot of good British actors to choose from and they're going to cast British for Doctor Who.

A guest role is slightly more plausible. If David moved to Britain and established himself here. Which...isn't going to happen. I know he's a huge Doctor Who fan, but I don't think we'll ever see him in the series.

Amen to that. Cancel SGA? Dude, I'd be a one-woman letter campaign ;)
