John Peel has died
26 October 2004 15:08Apparently it happened whilst he was on holiday in Peru.
It is definitely the end of an era. I shall miss hearing him on the radio and mourn that I'll never again attend a gig of his. What an amazing achievement to break new and cutting edge music for over 40 years.
Way to go, John. You will be much missed.

Date: 26 October 2004 13:26 (UTC)I still remember the thrill a group of schoolfriends and I had when our request was played on his Sunday afternoon request show. I think I was 14 at the time. And then attending some of his gigs when I was at university. Of course, I always listened to his programme. But then, who didn't?
I've loved his 'Home Truths' programme on Radio 4 in recent years, as well. I can't believe he's gone. I think most of us can't believe it. He showed that one can be, and remain, a thoroughly decent human being even when famous.
Oh damn, I'm tearing up again.
