It's been a long time since I actually finished something. Most of my efforts in recent years have fizzled out, when I've been too overwhelmed by RL circumstances to finish them. Or, I've just lost interest (temporarily, although I think that Smallville story is gone for good -- I can barely bring myself to watch the show any more) in finishing them at present.

So, imagine how glad I am to have finished something. Even if it is crack!fic! of the veriest cracked nature...

Announcing my first Stargate Atlantis story, written for the [livejournal.com profile] sga_flashfic Harlequin Challenge.

Pairing: McKay/Sheppard
Genre: Slash
Rating: Explicit

Story summary: Atlantis needs Prince Rodney back.

Part One can be read here.

Part Two is here.

Hey, must thank you for the Jane Fancher books which Tem handed over on Saturday. I've ditched what I was reading to start on the first one, which gripped me pretty much from the off.

Good to see this from you - though I'm really not an SGA person, I am going to go off and read it! Now you can finish all those Pros fics you have in the works, right??? *g*

On another note - you are going to Connotations, aren't you? Very much looking forward to seeing you there - and as you might recall, I'll be in London with [livejournal.com profile] aerye and [livejournal.com profile] paris7am starting the following Wednesday; we're seeing A Man for All Seasons at the Windsor on Friday night. Very much hope to hook up with you, if not for the show, then maybe Wed or Thurs night, lunch, or whatever. Or even Saturday breakfast (I'm leaving Saturday afternoon).

Glad that you're going to give the story a chance. I would love it if you -- with all your energy and enthusiasm and mad pimpage skills -- got into SGA, as well as Pros. *g*

As for the Pros fic... Erm, I don't actually have anything on the go atm. But Pros is one of those fandoms for me which I think will last. It has done for at least 5 years now, so I think it's a keeper. It's just at present I'm madly in love with SGA and there isn't room for writing anything else. But I know from past experience that this won't last and I'll go back to the old favourites at that point.

I am definitely going to Connotations and am looking forward to seeing as much as possible of you both at the con and afterwards. Yay!

Congrats for finishing it! I remember you telling me about it while you were writing it, and I will definitely read it, because it's written by you.

Oh, actually this isn't the one I was talking about -- I'm still writing that one. The one I've finished came about because a certain line got stuck in my head and I had to construct a story to use it. *g*

I am enormously flattered that you want to read it.

Read it.

Liked it, for all it's crack-ness, even with the hole you could throw a dog through. (when can I not find something to criticise?)

Now, that you're all limbered up, so to speak, please exercise yourself on the epic.

even with the hole you could throw a dog through.

Only one plot hole? *blinks at filenotch*

Glad that you liked it, despite the cracked premise, and I am continuing to write the epic and will be asking you to check the science (seeing as you were mad kind enough to offer) in due course. Mind you, I'm only up to page 75 atm, so there's a way to go...

Only one plot hole?

Only one big enough to throw a dog through.

No, really, it was cute.

You can hit me with the epic at any point if you don't want to wait to complete it to find out where the canine-sized holes are. *blinks at mandragora*

Hmm, well since you offered, I think when I've finished the ongoing scene I'll send you what I've done to date -- although I know that I'm going to have to revise it. The pacing's off, for one thing.

Many thanks.

Hey! This looks great -- I read the first bits but must run (travel is a bit hectic, to say the least). Will save and read on the next plane!

Oh, I didn't think that you were at all into SGA. Alsoa isn't either so I was pouting away at losing my regular betas. Of course, if you are... *rubs hands in glee*

Oh, you know me, fannish butterfly that I am! Though I have to agree with you regarding Smallville. For all that some shows become really pitiful *cough*HighlanderSeason6*cough*, they're still worth reading and writing. I can't seem to get past some of the latest on SV, either.

And I am such a sucker for this challenge! Your story was just perfect for it. You managed to make it true to canon so cleverly, and yet it was such crackfic.

Yeah, it's such a shame about SV. The latest season I had it on in the background but only paid attention to the Clark 'n' Lex bits. Which weren't much, alas.

Writing crackfic? Me? *bg* I wound up Temaris by suggesting that I thought it could be an episode. There was a loooong silence on the other end of the phone, whilst she thought about how to break it to me gently. Ah, bless.

And yes, it was total crackfic!

Oh, I wouldn't write off the episode-ness of it. Probably not all the details, but I can definitely imagine some of the elements making it into the series. *cackles* Prince Rodney!!

Oh yeah, Prince Rodney would be hilarious. I still like the idea of John as his princess consort, though.

This is incredibly giggle-worthy. I loved how you took the ludicrous premise and actually dealt with it causing a serious problem. The story was farcical but not in an overblown way.

*grin* Glad that it made you giggle. I think the only way to treat a ludicrous premise is to play it straight. So to speak.

I must admit the thought of John as a betrayed virgin was too much fun not to play with, but you're absolutely right. The whole thing is ludicrous.

From: [identity profile] raincitygirl.livejournal.com
Yup, exactly. Playing it straight leads to the funniest results.

Yes, all that angst increases the pay-off, I think. I pretty much wrote the whole thing so I could have John yell at Rodney to "Get out," and chuck him out of his quarters like a despoiled virgin. But for it to work John had to really *mean* it, you know and have reason to mean it.
